Leshan - Grand Buddha
The biggest Buddha statue in the world is right here in Leshan. The
work during which this 71 metres high statue was carved to the cliff above
Min river started in 713 AD and lasted 90 years. The purpose of this
project was to protect boatmen from perishing in the wild waters of the
river. As the rock from the project was deposited in the river, the
waterflow changed and the river ceased to be as dangerous.
